Hello, world! My name is An, and I'm a rising Junior at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts studying computer science and engineering. At this point, I consider Boston my home, but I was born in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois and grew up in Dallas, Texas. My father is from Spain and my mother from Singapore, and because we have no family in the United States (minus Uncle Boon in California and Aunt Eunice in Vermont), I've been international traveling since I was 4 months old.

This summer, I'll be training convolutional neural networks for image recognition in self-driving cars at a tech startup in the heart of Tel-Aviv for ten weeks. Whew, that was a mouthful. The project this summer is certainly outside of my intellectual comfort zone, but I am excited and ready to challenge my brain this summer instead of my quad muscles and heat tolerance (thank you, Spokes). Other adventures on the itinerary:

Inspired by my father’s trek across Europe by trains during his college years, I’ll be doing a shortened version post-internship from Vienna to (hopefully) Budapest and Prague before returning back to the states. Recommendations are appreciated; travel buddies welcomed!

This will be my first time visiting Israel, and I am beyond grateful and to experience the beautiful culture firsthand and to familiarize myself with the world of machine learning and the startup atmosphere. I'll be documenting my experiences on this blog, so come along the journey with me through Tel-Aviv and beyond!

Cheers!

An
